My Morning Routine | Get You Life Together | 5 AM Grind

So I’ve been consistently waking up fairly early for the past month. Before deciding to make the change to wake up early I would generally wake up 30 minutes before I had to leave for work. Just enough time for me to get ready for work and tidy up a few things around our house.

At the beginning of the year, I tried to implement waking up early at 5:30. I decided I need to start waking up early to give me more of a morning routine. To allow time for myself and make time for things I want to do. I have read and watched plenty of videos stating the benefits of waking up early. A few benefits according to Health Fitness Revolution suggests that waking up early can help increase productivity, allow time for exercise, time for yourself, allow time to master your craft and induce better sleep quality. All things that I disparately wanted to incorporate into my daily routine.

Prior to making changes to my sleep schedule my morning generally looked like the schedule below:

  • Wake up at 7 (6:30 if Ryan’s daughter was in town)

  • Get ready

  • Let the dogs out

  • Fill their trays with food and water

  • Water my plants

  • Lay in bed for whatever remaining time I had left

  • Leave for work by 7:30.

In doing this, I noticed my mornings felt somewhat flustered and rushed, by the time I got home I always already time or not in the mood to do anything. In turn, that meant it took a lot of effort to get myself to workout – if I did end up working out.

After changing my routine, this I what my morning generally looks like now:

  • Alarm goes off at 5

  • Move  to the living room to listen to affirmations for about 5-15 mins depending on how tired I am

  • Get my blood flowing at 5:30

    • Currently I am trying to get into yoga to gain my flexibility back and I have always been interested in yoga.

    • Before I used to do this 15 minute HIIT workout. Ass kicker.

    • I like to have something short sweet and two the point.

    • I’m going to start changing my routine to workout first and then do yoga as a cool down.

  • I generally have about 15 minutes to spare at 5:45

    • Write my Gratitudes for the morning (5 in the morning 5 at night

      • This helps me start and end my day being grateful and starting on a positive note

    • Get myself ready at this time because it doesn’t take me long to get myself ready since I go for a more “effortless” look haha.

    • Blend, juice and drink my Celery Juice

      • I started drinking celery juice in the morning to help heal my body. I’ve been breaking out with Acne and having Eczema flair ups and I’m just not having it

  • Start Blogging or Editing by 6am for an hour

    • It’s a priority of mine to make sure I get this done every day to make progress and provide myself some consistency.

  • By 7 I will complete the last tasks for the morning

    • Wake up Ryan’s Daughter and get her ready (if she’s in town)

    • Wake up the boys

    • Let them out to do their business

    • Fill their trays with food and water

    • Water my plants

  • Around 7:20 I usually will be done with everything

    • At this time I will make sure all my stuff is ready to go for when I leave for work

      • My bag, shoes, jacket, food if I am bringing anything

    • And then I lay in bed for the remainder of the time because the moment right before I leave for work and go to bed is the only time Ryan and I have to ourselves. So I like to take this time to just be present and relax before I leave for the day ahead of me.

So far, I’ve been loving waking up early. I don’t enjoy the whole waking up part so much, but after I’ve woken up I feel like I’ve accomplished so much in the day. It helps me get my day started in a positive way so I can look forward to the rest of the day to come. I feel like taking time to myself to accomplish and finish the things on my personal list gives me more motivation to continue with the day because for me, I’ve gotten all of my important tasks out of the way which means the rest of the day is just easy coasting. Some days I wake up a little later than others, but having a morning routine has surprisingly helped me so much.

I hope my morning routine helps inspire some of you to start your day a little bit earlier to allow some time for yourself. I feel like live in a time that is constantly on a go that we don’t take the time to take care of ourselves. I’m learning selfcare is so important to keep your body and mind in a healthy state.
